Patients often ask us about a full mouth reconstruction. Do they need to undergo this treatment? How long is the treatment time? The following information offers you further details about the process.
What Is a Full Mouth Reconstruction?
Also known as a full mouth restoration, a full mouth reconstruction involves the restoration, rebuilding, or replacement of most or all the teeth in the top and bottom jaws. The therapy comprises treatments that address specific oral health concerns, combining general and/or restorative dental procedures to support the therapy.
Some of the Therapies Used in a Full Mouth Reconstruction?
When undergoing a full mouth reconstruction, patients may receive restorations, such as fillings, inlays, onlays, dental bridges, dentures, dental crowns, or dental implants. They may undergo specialized procedures, such as gum tissue recontouring, root canal therapy, scaling and root planing (SRP), bone or tissue grafting, and crown lengthening. Surgeries may be performed, such as corrective jaw surgery or tooth extractions. Treatment for temporomandibular disorder (TMD) may be included as well.
Is a Smiles Makeover the Same as a Full Mouth Reconstruction?
While both treatments can be customized and involve a combination of treatments, they are performed for different reasons. We perform full mouth reconstructions to restore optimal oral health to a patient while smile makeovers represent elective treatments a patient schedules to improve his or her smile and appearance. Therefore, a full-mouth reconstruction can improve your oral health considerably.
