Should You Be Performing an Oral Exam Each Month Looking for Oral Cancer Symptoms?Seeing our professionals frequently is your first line of defense against gum problems, cavities, and oral cancer. While you should be seeing us after every six months, you may want to make monthly appointments which allow us to check for the symptoms of oral cancer, especially if you are at risk due to activities such as alcohol consumption and tobacco use.

Our Professionals Will Detect Cancer Early

Early detection of a chronic condition such as cancer is crucial. When cancer or any precancerous conditions in your mouth are detected early, they may be easier to treat. The main purpose of undergoing oral cancer screening is to help identify any signs of mouth cancer when there is a great chance for a cure. During the screening, our professionals can use additional tests to try to identify if there are any abnormal cells in your mouth. If you are at a high risk of oral cancer, you are more likely to benefit from frequent screening. High-risk factors include heavy alcohol use, significant sun exposure, and tobacco use, including snuff, cigarettes, chewing tobacco, pipes or cigars, and previous oral cancer diagnosis.

You Will Start Treatment Early

While early detection is important, it will only help if you can start the right treatment on time. When our professionals detect oral cancer symptoms early, it will give you enough time to discuss your treatment options. This way, you will have time to decide what kind of treatment is best for you. The screening will also help avoid overtreatment. Remember, oral cancer can become life-threatening if you do not treat it early. There is no downside to frequent oral cancer screening. Get in touch with us for more information on oral cancer and schedule your monthly oral exam.
