What are the Advantages of Dental Implants?

Posted on 10/10/2022 by Young Jun DDS MD FACS
What are the Advantages of Dental Implants?A dental implant is a sophisticated replacement tooth that resembles the entire tooth structure. A titanium 'root' is firmly placed in the bone to anchor a bridge, crown, or denture. If well-maintained, it can last a lifetime and acts, feel, and appear like a natural tooth. Dental implants are ideal for people with missing, decayed, or broken teeth. Here are the significant benefits of dental implants:

Durable

Unlike dental bridges, dental implants are long-lasting since they can last for a lifetime. The titanium implant fuses with the jawbone and is manufactured with titanium. It is biocompatible, which means that it won't harm the body and won't be rejected by it. Overall, it creates a strong substitute tooth.

Dental Implants Feel Like Natural Teeth

Dental implants mimic your natural teeth, and many patients cannot distinguish between their implant tooth and their natural teeth. Implants restore their chewing ability, allowing them to eat, brush, and floss normally.

Prevent Bone Loss

Lack of stimulation causes the jaw bone with no tooth to degenerate. Without an implant, the bone surrounding the missing tooth loses 25% of its volume in the first year, and the bone loss proceeds over time. Dentures frequently loosen and grind against the bony ridge, eroding it away and hastening bone loss. An implant stimulates natural bone growth since it replaces the tooth and root, restoring chewing to normal.

Avoid Facial Sagging and Premature Aging

An unwelcome side effect of bone loss brought on by tooth loss is facial drooping. The lower part of the face begins to collapse at this point, gradually reducing the space between the chin and the nose's tip. Increased wrinkles around the mouth, thinner lips, and a sharper chin are a few changes that can make someone appear much older than their actual age.
