Jaw Pain Can Come from Your Posture!Your regular posture affects the alignment of your bones, muscles, and joints. If your occupation and daily routine impel you to take up awkward postures for most of the day, then you shouldn't be surprised when you develop pains in your jaw and other parts of your body sooner or later. You might develop serious maxillofacial issues if your spine has been mis-sculpted by bad posture.

For instance, people who hunch over on their work desks for hours every day might find their spine pushes their head further forward, resulting in the condyles of the jaws thrust deeper into their sockets. This could result in serious symptoms of TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorder, including severe jaw pains, increased tone or contraction in the jaws, popping sensations in the jaws, difficulties in opening the mouth and speaking, headaches, neck pains, etc. Other bad postures that could cause jaw pains include those caused by foot problems such as flat arches, hyperpronation, and the use of high heels and other non-supportive footwear.

How to Treat Jaw Pains from bad Posture


The first and most important thing to do is to try correcting the postural defect that caused the skeleton-muscular misalignments in the first place. Learn to stand properly with your shoulders laid back and your chest and chins slouched forward slightly. When seated, learn to hold up the upper part of your body as in a standing position, but with your buttocks firmly backed into the chair and your weight evenly distributed across your hips.
